Crane Fly

Crane Fly Control

Crane Fly

The adult European crane fly and its cousin the common crane fly (a new visitor from Canada) has an appearance as a giant mosquito and are commonly found flying clumsily around our yards in the late Summer and early Fall.  The larval stage of the crane fly feeds on the crowns of a variety of grasses.  If crane fly populations are heavy enough, the larval crane fly can do serious damage to your lawn.  Treating the lawn areas for the control of the crane fly will significantly drop the crane fly populations below the lawn damage threshold.  We recommend two applications: the first is performed during the Fall when the larvae first hatch and the second application is performed in the late Winter when the larvae have emerged from dormancy.
